Etnografía y participación corporal: Contribuciones metodológicas para el trabajo de campo

Abstract

El artículo propone una serie de reflexiones sobre la corporalidad del investigador en los procesos de investigación etnográfica. Reconociendo el carácter encarnado de toda cultura, el trabajo aboga por la necesidad que el etnógrafo habite lo que denominamos el “suelo corporal” de un grupo. Asimismo, propone una modalidad metodológica particular bajo la cual conducir esta inmersión corporal en el campo. En este sentido, a partir de nuestra experiencia con grupos que practican la meditación zen, se propone la aplicación de ésta tecnología del yo al desarrollo de la propia investigación de campo, lo que implica una disposición mental y corporal de atención situada en el aquí y ahora a lo que acontece en el entorno y en el propio cuerpo. Denominamos a esta modalidad “etnografía presente”. De este modo, el artículo discute y se inscribe en una serie de trabajos que se proponen sistematizar metodologías de investigación etnográficas de “participación observante”.

The article proposes a series of reflections on the corporality of the researcher in the processes of ethnographic research. Recognizing the embodied character of every culture, the work advocates the need for the ethnographer to inhabit what we call the "body floor" of a group. It also proposes a particular methodological modality under which to conduct this body immersion in the field. In this sense, from our experience with groups that practice Zen meditation, we propose the application of this technology of the self to the development of the field research itself, which implies a mental and bodily disposition of attention located in the here and now to what happens in the environment and in the body itself. We call this modality "present ethnography". In this way, the article discusses and is part of a series of works that aim to systematize ethnographic research methodologies of "observant participation".
