La compleja relación del crimen con el pecado y del castigo con la penitencia en el ámbito cristiano medieval occidental se analiza a partir del caso particular del robo en el contexto del Ms. Esc. K-III-4 ("Libro de Apolonio", "Vida de Santa María Egipciaca", "Libro de los tres reyes de Oriente"), para dar cuenta de la prevalencia de la penitencia sobre el castigo como un mensaje ejemplar quetestimonia la problemática tanto espiritual como más ampliamente social del pecado

The complex relationship of crime with sin and punishment with penance in the Western medieval Christian realm will be analysed in the particular case of robbery in the context of Ms. Esc. K-III-4 (Libro de Apolonio, Vida de Santa María Egipciaca, Libro de los tres reyes de Oriente), to give an account of the prevalence of penance on the punishment as an exemplary message that testifies to the spiritual and more widely social problems of the sin
