Ni contigo ni sin tí. Bibliotecas populares, asociacionismo cultural y acción estatal en el sudoeste bonaerense (1880-1930)

Abstract

El presente trabajo se propone indagar tres bibliotecas populares del sudoeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires (Argentina) fundadas entre fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX por diferentes agrupaciones que compartían, sin embargo, la confianza en el poder de la cultura letrada como factor civilizatorio en localidades de reciente integración al proyecto de consolidación estatal nacional. En este sentido, se pretende analizar las complejas relaciones que establecieron estas bibliotecas con los poderes públicos y sus agencias burocráticas a nivel nacional, provincial y municipal, atendiendo particularmente a las tensiones generadas entre su reivindicación autonómica y los reclamos de financiamiento y aval oficial que requerían para garantizar la continuidad y la ampliación de su obra cultural.

This paper examine three popular libraries in the southwest of the province of Buenos Aires (Argentina), founded between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century by different groups that shared, however, their confidence in the power of written culture as a factor of civilization in locations recently integrated to the national state consolidation project. In this sense, it is intended to analyze the complex relationships established by these libraries with the public authorities and their bureaucratic agencies at the national, provincial and municipal levels, paying particular attention to the tensions generated between their claim of autonomy and the demands for financing and official endorsement required to ensure continuity and expansion of their cultural work.
