La cosecha de yerba mate en Misiones (Argentina): una actividad laboral -tarefa- con marcas de desigualdad de género

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es analizar los trabajos llevados a cabo por las mujeres tareferas en la cosecha de yerba mate ?tarefa?, en la Provincia de Misiones, Argentina. La hipótesis central que moviliza el estudio parte de que a pesar del reciente reconocimiento del ?trabajo productivo? de las mujeres, éstas continúan realizando una enorme masa de trabajo no remunerada ni contabilizada, aunque sea clave para la sostenibilidad de la vida y de la fuerza de trabajo. La metodología empleada en la investigación es cualitativa y descriptiva. Se basa, en primer lugar, en la recopilación, interpretación y análisis de bibliografías afines a la temática y de fuentes históricas. En segundo lugar, se han realizado y analizado entrevistas a cosecheros y cosecheras de yerba mate, en un trabajo de campo intermitente y prolongado. En base a ello, el estudio revela cómo a pesar de la nueva identidad como trabajadoras, las mujeres tareferas continuaron subordinadas a través de prácticas, significaciones y representaciones presentes en un ámbito laboral masculinizado, que potencia la superposición del trabajo doméstico y de cuidados en el mismo espacio laboral.

The aim of this article is to analyze the work carried out by tareferas in the yerba mate –tarefa– harvest, in the Province of Misiones, Argentina. The central hypothesis that mobilizes the study is based on the fact that despite the recent recognition of the “productive work” of women, they continue to carry out an enormous mass of unpaid and unaccounted work, even though it is the key to the sustainability of life and workforce. This research uses a qualitative and descriptive methodology. It is based, first of all, on the compilation, interpretation and analysis of bibliographies related to the subject and historical sources. Secondly, interviews with yerba mate harvesters have been performed and analyzed in an intermittent and prolonged fieldwork. Based on that, the study reveals how despite the new identity as workers, women from tarefa continued to be subordinated through practices, meanings and representations present in a masculinized work environment, which enhances the overlap of domestic work and care in the same workplace.
