La ciudad de Corrientes vista por el jesuita expulso P. Francisco Valdés

Abstract

El presente trabajo es parte de un proyecto sobre el estudio crítico de una serie de relaciones encargadas por el jesuita navarro Pedro Antonio de Calatayud (1689-1773). Desde su exilio en Bolonia, intentó escribir una historia de la provincia jesuítica del Paraguay, para lo cual requirió de la ayuda de los expulsos de aquella región radicados en Faenza. Colaboraron más de una docena de jesuitas con trabajos de alta calidad que quedaron inéditos, pues no tenían como fin ser publicados. Éste del P. Valdés, sobre la ciudad de Corrientes, es uno de ellos. En tanto que la obra del P. Calatayud quedó inconclusa e inédita, junto a estos textos que se encuentran en un mismo legajo en el Archivo de Loyola en Aspeitia.

The present work is part of a project on the critical study of a series of relationships commissioned by the Navarrese Jesuit Pedro Antonio de Calatayud (1689- 1773). From his exile in Bologna, he tried to write a history of the Jesuit province of Paraguay, for which he required the help of exiles from that region based in Faenza. They collaborated more than a dozen Jesuits with high quality works that were unpublished, because they were not intended to be published. This one of P. Valdés, on the city of Corrientes, is one of them. While the work of P. Calatayud remained unfinished and unpublished, together with these texts that are in the same file in the Loyola Archive in Aspeitia.
