Vivian Maier. Apuntes para una disputa en el campo del arte

Abstract

El descubrimiento de las fotografías de Vivian Maier se ha vuelto un verdadero fenómeno. En los últimos años se han sucedido muestras, ediciones de libros y,finalmente, la realización del documental Finding Vivian Maier; todo ello no ha hecho más que acrecentar el mito alrededor de esta misteriosa fotógrafa. Como elemento en común, estas instancias se caracterizan por poseer un objetivo primordial: hacer ingresar a Vivian Maier al canon de los fotógrafos.El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo efectuar una primera aproximación de dicho fenómeno a partir de la teoría de los campos de Pierre Bourdieu. De este modo, nos proponemos estudiar las diversas disputas y tensiones al interior del campo del arte que ha generado el descubrimiento de esta fotógrafa.

The discovery of Vivian Maier's photographs has become a real phenomenon. In recent years there have been a series of exhibitions, books editions, and, finally, the documentary Finding Vivian Maier. All this has perpetuated the myth surrounding this mysterious photographer. All these instances are characterized by a primary goal: to make Vivian Maier part of the canon of photography. This article aims to make a first approximation to this phenomenon using Pierre Bourdieu’s field theory. Thus, we propose to study the various disputes and tensions generated in the art field by the discovery of this photographer.
