Superposiciones y actitudes hacia el arte rupestre preexistente: un caso de estudio en Patagonia Meridional

Abstract

Se propone que el estudio de las superposiciones permitirá ahondar en las decisiones adoptadas por los posteriores ocupantes de una región en relación con el arte rupestre preexistente y, por tanto, en las actitudes hacia los individuos y grupos que produjeron estas imágenes. Se definen diferentes tipos de superposiciones con diversas implicaciones: mínimas, mantenimientos, reciclados, obliteraciones y circunstanciales. Estos últimos son explorados mediante el estudio de un contexto arqueológico particular: el arte rupestre de la meseta del Strobel (Patagonia meridional, Argentina). Se analiza el tiempo transcurrido entre la ejecución de las diferentes imágenes y, así, los diversos tipos de superposiciones en su aspecto temporal. Se considera la presencia de continuidades o cambios entre los diferentes momentos de producción del arte rupestre, evaluándose la posibilidad de comportamiento territorial en el Holoceno tardío.

It is proposed that the study of superimpositions will allow insight into the decisions adopted by later inhabitants of a region towards pre-existing rock art and, consequently, their attitude in relation to the individuals and groups who produced these images. Different types of superimpositions are defined with diverse implications: minimal, maintenance, recycling, obliteration and circumstantial. These types of superimpositions are explored examining a particular archaeological context: that of the rock art of the Strobel plateau (southern Patagonia, Argentina). The time elapsed between the execution of the different images and therefore the diverse kinds of superimpositions in their temporal aspect are analysed. The existence of continuities or changes between different moments of rock art production is considered. This way, the possibility of territorial behaviour during the late Holocene is evaluated.
