Medios y realidad: formaciones discursivas en disputa

Abstract

En este artículo, nos proponemos abordar los mecanismos discursivos que regulan las posibles interpretaciones que puede adquirir un discurso particular, con el objetivo de analizar la constitución del sentido del signo “sexualidad”, en los diarios argentinos La Nación y Página/12, en la actualidad. Tal como sostiene Verón (1986) ―y nosotros adherimos― un discurso no genera nunca un único sentido, sino que abre la posibilidad a un campo de efectos posibles. Esta tesis nos permite conjeturar, a su vez, que este campo de efectos de sentidos no es en modo alguno indefinido ni azaroso, sino que, por el contrario, está restringido a un número limitado de posibilidades, determinado por mecanismos que operan en el nivel del discurso. Del mismo modo, dicha propuesta nos lleva a inferir que, tal como existe un campo de efectos posible, existe todo un conjunto de interpretaciones que quedan fuera, producto, precisamente, de las mismas operaciones que hacen que (solamente) ciertas interpretaciones sean esperables. En este artículo, nos proponemos explicar cuáles son esos mecanismos que regulan qué sentidos son posibles y cuáles permanecen excluidos. Para ello, problematizamos las nociones de interdiscurso, formación discursiva (Pêcheux 1975) y discurso dominante (Raiter 2003) y proponemos el concepto de “apropiación enunciativa”, con el fin de contribuir a la discusión sobre los procesos de significación discursiva.

The aim of this article is to analyse the discursive mechanisms that regulate the possible meanings that a particular speech may acquire. We address this question within the framework of the analysis of discursive processes (Pecheux, 1975), which underlie the construction of the meaning of the ideological sign “sexuality” in the Argentinian newspapers La Nación and Página/12, today. We agree with Verón (1986) in that a speech does not generate only one meaning but instead, it allows a wide variety of effects. Assuming this thesis, we may presume that this field of possible effects of meanings is neither vague nor random. On the contrary, it is restricted to a limited number of possibilities, restriction which is established trough mechanisms that operate at the speech level. This leads us to infer that, as there is a field of possible effects, there are a number of interpretations that will be left out as a result of the same processes that only allow certain interpretations to be expected. In this article, we intend to explain these mechanisms that regulate which meanings are possible and which ones are not. In order to achieve this, we problematize the notions of interdiscourse, discursive formations (Pêcheux 1975) and dominant discourse (Raiter 2003) and we propose the concept of “enunciative appropriation”.
