Alas, el memorioso: poesía, prosa y una contienda clave en su lectura del teatro áureo

Abstract

Para juzgar la actualidad literaria de su época, Leopoldo Alas debió definir una relación con el pasado. En este sentido, la crítica pudo ser para él una especie de custodia para la memoria del canon futuro. Así, el conflicto entre poesía y prosa le sirvió muchas veces como metáfora para mostrar la decadencia de su tiempo y exhibir la melancolía por cierta grandeza pretérita, muchas veces asociada con la poesía dramática del barroco.

To judge the literary present of his time, Leopoldo Alas had to define a relationship with the past. In this sense, the criticism might be for him a kind of custody for the memory of the future canon. Thus, the conflict between poetry and prose often served him as a metaphor to show the decline of his time and to expose some melancholy for bygone greatness, often associated with dramatic poetry of the Baroque.
