Muerte y memoria en algunos textos de la liturgia medieval

Abstract

Las sociedades de todas las épocas necesitan construir y mantener la memoria de sus muertos a fin de consolidar sus propias estructuras internas y defenderse de la amenaza constante de la disolución de la propia por el olvido. En este trabajo se busca mostrar el modo a través del cual la sociedad medieval mantuvo la memoria de sus muertos centrándonos en una de las expresiones culturales más importantes y características de esa época: la liturgia. La temática se abordará siguiendo los siguientes puntos: la polisemia de la memoria de los muertos, modos, lugares y espacios de conmemoración y el culto del cuerpo. Se tendrán en cuenta los textos de las misas de difuntos del Sacramentario Gelasiano y del Misal de Sarum y, para ilustrar el último punto, los ritos de la commendatione animae del costumbrero monástico de la abadía de San Agustín de Canterbury.

: The human societies need to build and keep safe the memories of their deaths in order to strength their owns structures and avoid its dissolution by the oblivion. In this paper I want to show the way in which the Medieval society kept the memories of their deaths according the liturgical texts. The issue will be analyze in three parts: the polysemy of the deaths memory, way and places of the commemoration, and the cult of the corpse. I take account the text of the Sacramentarium Gelasianum and the Sarum Missal as well as the the rites of the commendatione animae in use at the St. Augustine Abbey of Canterbury.
