El estigma de la difusión y la difusión del estigma. La escuela histórico-cultural y los prejuicios hacia los pueblos indígenas de Norpatagonia Argentina

Abstract

En la región de Norpatagonia, Argentina, históricamente se ha construido una identificación estigmatizante del pueblo Mapuche como "chileno" en contraposición con el pueblo Tehuelche -junto con otras parcialidades- como "argentinos".Ha sido la escuela histórico-cultural de tipo difusionista quien empleó la noción de "araucanización" para designar la supuesta sustitución de la antigua población indígena de las pampas por otra, de características diferentes, proveniente de Chile.Desde los sectores hegemónicos de la región se ha utilizado reiteradamente este concepto, para argumentar la presunta extranjería del pueblo mapuche, presentándolo además como "invasor" de los "verdaderos" pueblos originarios locales.Nos proponemos analizar la influencia de los etnólogos difusionistas en los estudios sobre los pueblos indígenas de Patagonia y la lectura que han efectuado -y promovido masivamente- de este "proceso de araucanización". Analizaremos su impronta, en algunas notas periodísticas actuales.

In the North-Patagionan area (Argentina), has been historically built a stigmatizing identification of the “Mapuche” as “Chilean” as opposed to the “Tehuelche” people –along with other partialities– as “Argentinean”. It has been the historical-cultural School of the diffusionist kind which used the idea of “Araucanization” to designate the supposed substitution of the old native population of the pampas for another one, of different characteristics, coming from Chile. This concept has been repeatedly used from the hegemonic social sectors of the region, to claim the alleged immigration of the mapuche people, presenting them furthermore as “invaders” of the “true” local native people. Our proposal is to analyze the influence of diffusionist ethnologists in the studies of native people of Patagonia and their interpretation –which they have massively promoted– on this “Araucanization process”. We will analyze their imprint, in some current journalistic notes.
