El recorrido artístico de Vivi Tellas en los '80: de Las Bay Biscuit al Teatro Malo

Abstract

Vivi Tellas es frecuentemente reconocida como una de las protagonistas de la escena underground porteña de los ochenta. Su variada obra de este período, sin embargo, ha sido escasamente estudiada. Partiendo principalmente de una multiplicidad de materiales conservados en el archivo personal de Tellas, mi propósito en este trabajo es, por un lado, esbozar una breve historización de su recorrido artístico de esos años, desde las actuaciones con las Bay Biscuit y sus performances unipersonales, hasta la presentación del proyecto Teatro Malo, con el que ella termina de instalarse definitivamente en el campo de la dirección teatral. Por otro lado, me interesa el modo en que el análisis de sus producciones nos acerca imágenes de los espacios en los que tenían lugar (por ejemplo, Cemento o el Parakultural) y de las producciones de otros artistas vinculados con ellas (como Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, Batato Barea y el dúo Los Melli, entre otros).

Vivi Tellas is often identified as one of the most relevant figures in the Buenos Aires underground scene of the eighties. However, her varied work of the period has been scarcely studied. Based on a series of materials from her personal archive, this paper seeks to outline a brief history of the different phases of that artistic itinerary: from her appearances with the musical‐ theatre group Las Bay Biscuit and her solo performances, to her Teatro Malo project, which represents the official beginning of her career as theatre director. Reviewing the diverse productions in which Tellas participated during those years provides very interesting images of the places where they occurred (Cemento or the Parakultural, for example) and of the other artists involved in them (such as Patricio Rey y sus Redonditos de Ricota, Batato Barea and Los Melli, amongst others), thus contributing to a wider portrait of that particular cultural moment.
