Avatares políticos y políticas sociales: El centro de la provincia de Buenos Aires a comienzos del siglo XX

Abstract

En los primeros años del siglo XX, tuvieron lugar en Azul, en el centro de la provincia de Buenos Aires, una serie de contingencias políticas que demandaron gran atención de las autoridades de turno. En este trabajo nos preguntamos sobre el lugar que ocuparon en la agenda de esos gobernantes, las demandas de carácter social. Se busca indagar sobre las funciones desarrolladas por el poder municipal y por la sociedad civil a la hora de atender a estas necesidades. Asimismo, se intenta complejizar el sentido que se le atribuye habitualmente al rol político que tuvieron las instituciones de beneficencia emanadas de ella, así como resaltar la gravitación de los líderes locales en espacios no exclusivamente políticos.

In the first years of the 20th century, a series of political contingencies took place in Azul, the center of the province of Buenos Aires, which demanded the attention of the authorities. This essay questions the place the social demands occupied in the agenda of the authorities and the functions developed by the municipal power and the civil society to attend to those necessities; the role politics habitually attributed to the charity institutions issuing from this society is given a more complex interpretation. It highlights the gravitation of the local leaders to spaces not exclusively political.
