Antinematodal drugs

Abstract

The Chapter summarizes the chemistry, mode of action, pharmacokinetics, spectrum of activity, factors affecting drug kinetic disposition/clinical efficacy and safety/toxicity for the most important chemical families of nematodicidal drugs. The description of the pharmacological properties includes Benzimidazoles and Pro-Benzimidazoles, Imidazothiazoles, Tetrahydropirimidines, Organophosphates, Heterocyclic compounds and Organic Arsenicals heartworm adulticides. Description of the molecular basis of anthelmintic resistance, the pharmacological principles of the use of anthelmintic drug combinations and some insight to the novel nematodicidal compounds are also included.
