¿Escasez de agua en el siglo XXI?: Formas de apropiación, distribución y uso del recurso hídrico por parte de productores vitivinícolas de Maipú, Mendoza

Abstract

El agua constituye un elemento vital para la sustentabilidad de los ecosistemas y de la vida social. El abastecimiento de este recurso resulta de un complejo de circunstancias que incluye no solo su disponibilidad y características, sino también aspectos demográficos, políticos, económicos y sociales. Por tanto, su escasez posee un elevado componente social, además de un factor físico. En el presente artículo se buscan conocer las percepciones, significaciones y estrategias llevadas adelante por los productores vitivinícolas de Maipú (Mendoza) en relación al recurso hídrico. En este territorio se han generado disputas -históricas y actuales- en torno a la apropiación y uso del mismo, debido no solo a una característica física concreta del territorio, sino y sobre todo, a una persistente construcción social de la escasez de agua. Para alcanzar este objetivo, se complementan datos cuantitativos y cualitativos, con preeminencia de estos últimos.

Water is a vital element for the sustainability of ecosystems and social life. The global water supply is the result of a complex of circumstances that includes not only the availability of water and its characteristics, but also demographic, political, economic and social issues. Therefore, water scarcity has a high social component, as well as a physical factor. This article attempts to recognize ways of appropriation, the meanings and perceptions of Maipu’s wine producers regarding water. In this territory there have been disputes –historical and currentregarding the ownership, distribution and use of the water resource, due, not only to a specific physical characteristic of the territory, but above all, to persistent social construction of the water shortage. To achieve this objective, we complement quantitative and qualitative data, with predominance of these last ones.
