Muera el Imperio y sus esclavos: Responsabilidades, causas y consecuencias de la guerra de la Tripla Alianza a la luz de la prensa paraguaya (1864-1870)

Abstract

El gobierno de Paraguay creó durante la guerra de la Triple Alianza (1864-1870) cuatro periódicos con características novedosas (escritos en guaraní, con tono satírico e ilustrados con xilograbados) con el objetivo de difundir su visión del conflicto entre un público más amplio. Entendiendo que la acción de narrar la noticia constituye un acontecimiento diferente del hecho que se narra, nos proponemos analizar las representaciones que estos periódicos brindaron sobre diferentes aspectos del enfrentamiento.

The government of Paraguay created during the War of the Triple Alliance (1864-1870) four newspapers with new characteristics (written in Guarani, with satirical tone and illustrated with wood engraving) with the aim of spreading his vision of this conflict between a wider audience. Understanding that the action to narrate the news constitutes a different event from the fact that is narrated, we propose to analyze the representations that these newspapers offered on different aspects of the confrontation. Our aim is to focus precisely on how these newspapers understood the war, that is to say, its causes, its consequences, the role of the political leaders on both sides, as well as the responsibilities of Paraguay, the allied countries, and the rest of the South American countries with regard to the onset and the continuity of the conflict.
