Abstract

Descifrar el enigma y trazar el derrotero de la cultura rebelde y emancipadora de Nuestra América (como la denominaba José Martí) implica, entre otras tareas impostergables, recuperar la obra de sus pensadores revolucionarios y sus intelectuales críticos. Este continente sufrido, rebelde e insumiso, no sólo ha encendido la llama de innumerables levantamientos e insurrecciones populares. Al mismo tiempo ha creado teoría y generado reflexión. Este trabajo intenta descifrar esas interrogantes analizando uno de sus ensayos clásicos.

Through a highly critical political analysis with a socialist and counter-hegemonic perspective, this study interprets the current geopolitical development of neoliberal capitalist currents and the cultural and historic actuality of the literary-revolutionary figure of Caliban, contrasted with characters in The Tempest by Shakespeare. This is accomplished in a broad context, where ideological power forces condition the forms of liberty that each people represents to take on authentic movements of insurgence, rebellion and liberation, which, since the conquest, have been camped in the Latin American decolonial imaginary. The re-reading of Caliban in the code of political anthropology about the social subject, reopens an interesting and complex discussion about the new roles of participation that, in Latin America, pass for discourse, where in the other, the imperial form of culture prevails
