Las luchas de Julio Antonio Mella

Abstract

El presente artículo se inserta en una investigación más amplia acerca de los aportes latinoamericanos a la tradición marxista, entendida esta no sólo como teórica sino también como práctica en sentido transformador. En ese marco, el pensamiento y a acción del cubano Julio Antonio Mella (1903 – 1929) constituye uno de los primeros grandes aportes a esta tradición, en un momento en el que el contexto político mundial tenía como protagonistas tanto a la Primera Gran Guerra como al triunfo de la Revolución Rusa. Pero también América Latina irrumpía en la historia universal con las repercusiones del movimiento de la Reforma Universitaria, marcando un cambio de época en nuestros países. En ese marco, el joven dirigente estudiantil cubano formó parte de importantes y revolucionarias iniciativas como la Universidad Popular José Martí, surgida del Congreso Nacional de Estudiantes de 1923. Destacado propagandista y comunicador, abrazó la causa comunista, y siendo un hombre identificado con la III Internacional, Mella se destacó como organizador de la sección cubana de la Liga Antiimperialista y como fuerte polemista contra el APRA. Recorremos aquí algunos de los aportes teóricos y prácticos del líder cubano.

This work is part of a wider research of Latin American contributions to marxist tradition, regarded not only as theoretical but also as practical in a transformative sense. In that context, the thought and action of Julio Antonio Mella (1903-1929) represents one of the first big contributions to this tradition, when the Firs World War and the triumph of Russian Revolution were the main characters of the political context. However, Latin America bursted in universal History with the Universitary Reform, that represented a time of changes in our countries. In this context, the joung Cuban student leader was part of important and revolutionary initiatives such as Jose Marti popular University, created out of National Congress of Students in 1923. Taking up the cause of communism, and identified with III International, Mella stood out as organizer of the Cuban Section of Anti-imperialist League and as a great debater against APRA. We revise here some of the main aspects of his teorical and practical work.
