Un ejercicio de arqueología urbana: relación cronológica de materiales en veredas y construcciones conexas

Abstract

La arqueología urbana suponía que las veredas de Buenos Aires ya estaban totalmente destruidas para cualquier tipo de estudio sistemático. La excavación de varias cuadras en un barrio no central permitió observar la correlación entre la antigüedad de las construcciones y la de los objetos hallados en la vereda contigua. Esto abre una opción de investigación para inmuebles destruidos.

Since urban archaeology began in our countries, we have supposed, no without reason, that the sidewalks of urban streets were destroyed or very transformed, so its archaeological value was minimal or none. This exercise was raised in order to demonstrate that it is not as once thought, at least as an axiom, and that even in dense and constant alterations cities there exist valuable information to obtain with careful observations. The north sidewalk of the street Besares between Cabildo and Cuba, in Buenos Aires, was excavated by a utility company to pass electric cables. We took the opportunity to see if the material on the surface could be related to the block’s buildings, once filled the wells. We found that the artifacts are consistent with the age of the buildings despite the changes experienced by both buildings and on sidewalks. Key words: urban archaeology, Buenos Aires.
