La teología judaica de Walter Benjamin y Leo Löwenthal: La búsqueda de salvación, entre la crítica y la estética

Abstract

En este trabajo indago en el vínculo, muy poco estudiado, entre teoría crítica y pensamiento judío. Luego de revisar tal vínculo en algunos antecedentes de las ciencias y las letras desde el siglo XVIII hasta el XX -Moses Mendelssohn, Salomon Maimon, Heinrich Heine, Ferdinand Lassalle, Hermann Cohen y Sigmund Freud-, me detengo brevemente en algunos autores asociados a la Escuela de Frankfurt -Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno y Siegfried Kracauer-. Finalmente, me dedico, con mucho mayor detalle, a desplegar el vínculo entre teoría crítica y teología judaica en mi corpus central: algunos textos clave de Walter Benjamin y de Leo Löwenthal. Desarrollo, muy especialmente, los conceptos de revolución, utopía y mesianismo; teología positiva y negativa; continuo histórico y tiempo-ahora; esperanza y desesperanza; sufrimiento, salvación y redención; recogimiento y distracción; mímesis y profecía; juego y apariencia; aura y autenticidad. Asimismo, profundizo en figuras como las del marginal, el desposeído, el perdedor, el desviado, el exiliado, el explotado o la minoría, como símbolos de la promesa de un orden social y político alternativo.

In this work, I investigate the understudied link between Critical Theory and Jewish thought. After reviewing this connection in some background works of the sciences and literature from the 18th to the 20th century - Moses Mendelssohn, Salomon Maimon, Heinrich Heine, Ferdinand Lassalle, Hermann Cohen, and Sigmund Freud-, I briefly focus on some authors associated with the Frankfurt School -Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno, and Siegfried Kracauer-. Finally, I devote myself, in much greater detail, to unfolding the link between Critical Theory and Jewish theology in my core corpus: some key texts by Walter Benjamin and Leo Löwenthal. I develop, most specifically, the concepts of revolution, utopia, and messianism; positive and negative theology; historical continuum and time-now; hope and despair; suffering, salvation, and redemption; withdrawal and distraction; mimesis and prophecy; play and appearance; and aura and authenticity. I also explore figures such as those of the marginalized, the dispossessed, the loser, the deviant, the exiled, the exploited, and the minority, as symbols of the promise of an alternative social and political order.
