Riesgo de abandono escolar en la secundaria: Factores comunes y diferentes para varones y mujeres

Abstract

En base a la EPH del período 2003-2023, se analiza si los factores relacionados con la probabilidad de que los jóvenes entre 16 y 19 años estén en riesgo de abandonar la escuela secundaria son diferentes para varones y para mujeres. Se estima para cada género un modelo de regresión logística entre la relación de esa probabilidad y características de los jóvenes y sus hogares. Los resultados muestran que las mujeres que se encuentran en pareja o casadas tienen una probabilidad mayor que los varones en ese estado. La participación activa de los varones en el mercado laboral -trabajando full-time o buscando trabajo, tiene mayor efecto que en el caso de las mujeres en la misma situación.

The high school enrollment rate has increased significantly in recent years in Argentina. However, many of those who now reach this level are unable to complete it. Based on data from the Permanent Household Survey (EPH) for the period 2003-2023, this study examines whether the factors influencing the probability of high school dropout among youth aged 16 to 19 differ between men and women. A logistic regression model is employed to analyze the relationship between this probability and the characteristics of the individuals and their households for each gender. The findings reveal that women who are in a relationship or married are more likely to discontinue high school education compared to men. In addition, men’s active participation in the labor market—whether through full-time work or job seeking—has a greater impact on their dropout than it does for women in similar circumstances.
