La “aventura del héroe”: proyectos migratorios de los estudiantes universitarios de Río Negro

Abstract

El artículo analiza las percepciones y representaciones de los jóvenes estudiantes universitarios de Río Negro que se encuentran estudiando en las ciudades de Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires y La Plata respecto de las oportunidades y perspectivas que supone el proyecto migratorio para su futuro desarrollo personal y profesional. Entre 2005 y 2010 se registraron unos 1.200 ingresantes a universidades de los destinos mencionados oriundos de Río Negro, en especial en la Universidad de Buenos Aires, en la Universidad Nacional de La Plata y en la Universidad Nacional del Sur. El enfoque cualitativo de la investigación se basó en entrevistas en profundidad a unos 80 estudiantes universitarios de Río Negro en las ciudades mencionadas de diferentes carreras y con distintos niveles de avance en sus estudios. Se presenta primero un breve estado del arte respecto de los estudios de juventud enfatizando el área de vacancia de los estudios sobre migrantes universitarios en Argentina. Luego se da cuenta de las expectativas de las familias y de los propios entrevistados respecto del proyecto migratorio y se describe la experiencia educativa en las ciudades de destino. Posteriormente, se construyen cuatro trayectorias “típico-ideales” de los estudiantes rionegrinos migrantes. Finalmente, se analizan los futuros posibles e imaginados de los jóvenes migrantes, las diferentes restricciones (de capital social, cultural y económico) que enfrentan tanto las familias como los entrevistados y las prácticas sociales que despliegan en ese proceso.

The article analyses the perceptions and representations of young undergraduates from Rio Negro who are currently studying in the cities of Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires and La Plata. These perceptions are related to the opportunities and perspectives that the migration projects they have chosen present to their future professional and personal development. According to the information gathered, between 2005 and 2010, 1,200 students from Rio Negro have entered universities in the mentioned cities, specially the University of Buenos Aires, the National University of La Plata and the National University of the South. The qualitative research approach was based on in-depth interviews to 80 undergraduates from Rio Negro from different careers and years of study in the mentioned cities. A brief state of the art regarding the youth studies is presented first, making emphasis in the vacancy area that the research on university migrations has in Argentina. Then we present the families and the students’ expectations regarding the migration project and describe the educational experience in each mentioned destiny. After that, we build four ideal types of trajectories of the migrant students from Rio Negro. Finally, we analyze the futures imagined by the young migrants, as well as the different restrictions (of social, cultural and economical capital) that they face and the social practices displayed during the migration process.
