Incidencia del género y edad en el desempeño de tareas de teoría de la mente

Abstract

La Teoría de la mente (TdM) es la habilidad de atribuir sentimientos e intenciones a los otros, actuando en consecuencia. Esto equivale a suponer que el otro tiene una mente distinta a la propia, la cual puede albergar ideas, sentimientos y creencias diferentes a los propios, lo que permite predecir el comportamiento de los otros leyendo las señales corporales que emiten o adecuar la propia conducta a un contexto social. Una de las pruebas más frecuentemente utilizadas para evaluar TdM es Lectura de la mente en los ojos (LMO).1 Aunque es escasa la bibliografía acerca de si existen diferencias en el rendimiento en esta prueba según género y edad, Achával et al.2 no encuentran diferencias significativas en el rendimiento en LMO de acuerdo a la edad. En el resto de la bibliografía no ha sido analizada la relación entre LMO, edad y género. En el presente estudio nos proponemos evaluar la relación entre la edad y el género para el rendimiento en LMO.

The Theory of mind (ToM) is the ability to attribute feelings and intentions to others, acting accordingly. This allows to assume that the other has a mind different from our own, which can hold ideas, feelings and beliefs dissimilar from ours, which permits to predict the behavior of others by reading body signals that are emit or adequate one’s own behavior to a social context. One of the most frequently used tests to assess ToM is reading the mind in the eyes (LMO).1 Although there is little literature regarding possible differences in performance on this test by gender and age, Achaval et al.,2 found no significant differences in performance LMO according to age. In the rest of the literature has not been analyzed the relationship between LMO, Age and Gender. In this study we evaluate the relationship between age and gender to performance in LMO.
