El monte sagrado de Santa Tecla: patrimonio cultural y turismo religioso en la costa atlántica de Galicia

Abstract

Santa Tecla es un monte gallego cuya sacralidad se remonta a la antigüedad celta y mantiene vigencia hasta nuestros días, a través del turismo religioso. Esta investigación tuvo por objetivo analizar e interpretar la importancia de esta colina sagrada en el contexto del paisaje cultural costero en el extremo sur de Galicia. Metodológicamente, se basó en la observación participante durante un ascenso a pie a la cima desde el poblado de La Guarda, visitando el castro galaico-romano de Santa Trega, el museo arqueológico homónimo, los miradores en el Pico San Francisco y la ermita dedicada a la santa; así como en la recolección de testimonios espontáneos de visitantes, peregrinos y lugareños; una entrevista informal a la encargada del santuario y el registro fotográfico de cruzeiros, exvotos, imágenes religiosas y suvenires. Como resultado de las observaciones, la colina se revela como un palimpsesto de materialidades de importancia simbólica, desde el arte rupestre calcolítico asociado al castro prerromano hasta un posible lugar de culto galaico-romano dedicado a la fertilidad. El peregrinaje y el turismo contemporáneo en Santa Tecla acercan a visitantes locales y foráneos a una vivencia directa de la dimensión simbólica de la montaña atlántica en Galicia.

Santa Tecla, a Galician mountain with a sacredness that dates back to Celtic antiquity and remains valid to this day through religious tourism, is the subject of this significant research. This study aimed to analyse and interpret the importance of this sacred hill in the context of the coastal cultural landscape in the extreme south of Galicia. The methodology is based on participant observation during an ascent on foot to the summit from the town of La Guarda, visiting the Galician-Roman fort of Santa Trega, the archaeological museum of the same name, the viewpoints on Pico San Francisco and the hermitage dedicated to the Saint; as well as in the collection of spontaneous testimonies from visitors, pilgrims and locals; an informal interview with the person in charge of the sanctuary and the photographic record of votive offerings, religious images and souvenirs. The observations reveal the hill as a palimpsest of materialities of symbolic importance, from the Chalcolithic rock art associated with the pre-Roman fort to a possible place of Galician-Roman worship dedicated to fertility. The pilgrimage and contemporary tourism in Santa Tecla bring local and foreign visitors closer to a direct experience of the symbolic dimension of the Atlantic mountain in Galicia.
