Resumen
When chronic pain in neurological diseases is viewed from the treatment perspective, asserting a direct association between pain and the disease has major therapeutic and prognostic implications. When neurological diseases directly affect the somatosensory system, the diagnosis of neuropathic pain is a possibility29,32 (Foundation URI: http://id.who.int/icd/ entity/1170330671). However, some neurological diseases cause pain indirectly by altering motor and nonmotor descending controls so that pain may emerge from functional alterations in the musculoskeletal system. Such pains are categorized in the Eleventh Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) as “Chronic secondary musculoskeletal pain due to disease of the nervous system”26 (Foundation URI: http://id.who. int/icd/entity/2019368323).
