Primer registro de frugivoría por el Chinchero Chico (Lepidocolaptes angustirostris)

Abstract

Las aves de la familia Furnariidae se caracterizan por alimentarse de insectos y de pequeños vertebrados, aunque registros recientes sugieren que también pueden alimentarse de frutos. En este trabajo presentamos el primer registro de frugivoría del Chinchero Chico (Lepidocolaptes angustirostris). El mismo fue sobre una especie leñosa del Chaco Húmedo de la provincia de Santa Fe, Argentina.

Members of the Furnariidae family generally eat insects and small vertebrates. However, recent reports suggest that they can also eat fruits. Here we present the first record of frugivory of the Narrow-billed Woodcreeper (Lepidocolaptes angustirostris) on Scutia buxifolia, a woody species from the Humid Chaco of Santa Fe province, Argentina, is presented. Ingest was probed by the presence of 12 seeds in the feaces of a specimen.
