Apuntes para historizar la eugenesia desde una perspectiva crítica

Abstract

La eugenesia, “ciencia de la buena raza” al decir de su creador, Francis Galton, ha sido un constructo teórico de vastas implicancias en el mundo occidental que puso en correspondencia la valoración del cuerpo individual y el cuerpo social. Su perspectiva organicista sujeta a la consideración de las consecuencias que la reproducción traía aparejadas atravesó, desde un principio la cultura política, la cultura científica y la religión. Pensar históricamente el impacto de la eugenesia conlleva, entonces, la tarea de detenerse en sus esferas de interacción para reconocer aquello que incomoda a tradicionales caracterizaciones. En este sentido, sacándola del confinamiento en un espacio y tiempo determinado, de una ensimismada forma de entenderla y/o de las lábiles adaptaciones a conveniencias interpretativas, buscaremos aquí plantear algunas ideas para un abordaje crítico de la eugenesia.

Eugenics, the "science of the good race" according to its creator, Francis Galton, has been a theoretical construct with vast implications in the Western world that put in correspondence the valuation of the individual body and the social body. His organicist perspective subjected to the consideration of the consequences that reproduction brought with it crossed, from the beginning, political culture, scientific culture, and religion. Thinking historically about the impact of eugenics entails, then, the task of stopping at its spheres of interaction to recognize what bothers traditional characterizations. In this sense, taking it out of the confinement in a determined space and time, from a selfabsorbed way of understanding it and/or from the labile adaptations to interpretative conveniences, we will seek here to present some ideas for a critical approach to Eugenics.
