Criollos, gringos y turcos: Una etnografía de las reconfiguraciones identitarias en el Chaco santiagueño

Abstract

El presente artículo aborda la reconfiguración histórica de las identidades en el Chaco santiagueño desde comienzos del XX hasta la emergencia de organizaciones sociales con una fuerte política identitaria, como es el caso del Movimiento Campesino de Santiago del Estero-Vía Campesina. Se analiza, por un lado, cómo fue desarrollándose un proceso de diferenciación entre quienes se auto perciben como “criollos” y otros dos segmentos sociales que los criollos perciben como “gringos” y “turcos”. Por otro, se enfatiza en cómo el desarrollo de conflictos territoriales y la emergencia del MOCASE-VC fue generando nuevas identidades políticas que coexisten, antagonizan o se mixturan con las formaciones identitarias formadas a principio de siglo. El texto muestra como estas reconfiguraciones identitarias están relacionadas con procesos de transformación en los modos en los cuales se construyen vínculos y se establecen las relaciones de poder en el mundo local.

This article studies the historical reconfiguration of identities in the Santiago Chaco from the beginning of the 20th century until the emergence of social organizations with a strong identity policy, as is the case of the Campesino Movement of Santiago del Estero-Vía Campesina. On the one hand, it is analyzed how a process of differentiation developed between those who perceive themselves as “criollos” and two other social segments that the criollos perceive as “gringos” and “turcos”. On the other, it emphasizes how the development of territorial conflicts and the emergence of the MOCASE-VC was generating new political identities that coexist, antagonize or mix with the identity formations formed at the beginning of the century. The text shows how these identity reconfigurations are related to transformation processes in the ways in which ties are built and power relations are established in the local world.
