La historia económica argentina, 1984-2004. Un balance con luces y sombras

Abstract

Este artículo retoma y amplía la introducción realizada por el autor al libro La historia económica argentina en la encrucijada. Balances y perspectivas editado por la Asociación Argentina de Historia Económica en 2006. Por un lado se realiza una reflexión sobre la situación de la disciplina en el país y en el ámbito internacional, destacando su pérdida de centralidad en los estudios históricos y analizando sus causas. Luego se efectúa un balance de lo realizado en los últimos 20 años en Argentina, arribando a conclusiones matizadas. Se destaca un gran avance en ciertas áreas temáticas y en el estudio de ciertos periodos históricos y regiones, así como importantes áreas de "vacancia" que requieren ser abordadas con la mayor urgencia.

This article retakes and extends the introduction done by the author to the book La historia económica argentina en la encrucijada.Balances y perspectivas, published by the Argentine Economic History Association in 2006. On the one hand, a reflection is done on the state of the discipline, both in the country and abroad, emphasizing that it has been progresively leaved out of the core of historical studies, and analyzing the causes of that situation. Later, a balance is done on achievements reached in the past 20 years in Argentina, arriving at shadowing conclusions. It is to be emphasized that considerable success has been reached in certain thematic areas and in the study of certain historical periods and regions, but, on the other hand, important "emptiness" areas still remain, which require to be approached urgently.
