¿Cuantas y quienes? La venta de las tierras de la Conquista del Desierto (1879-1885) en Buenos Aires, Cordoba y en el Territorio Nacional de La Pampa

Abstract

A partir del plano National Territories. Names of Landowners incluido por los hermanos Edward y George Mulhall en Handbook of The River Plate (HRP) de 1885, un exhaustivo manual que los británicos publicaron, en varias ediciones, entre 1863 y 1892, se analiza el reparto de los territorios indígenas ubicados en distintas secciones de las provincias de Buenos Aires, Córdoba y el Territorio Nacional de La Pampa. La fuente incluye alrededor de catorce millones de hectáreas que fueron obtenidas por el Estado Nacional en la denominada Conquista del Desierto (1879-1885), campañas militares que se financiaron en gran parte mediante una ley de 1878 que convocó a la inversión de agentes privados. El artículo describe el contenido de los HRP en general y el plano en particular, analiza el reparto de la tierra de manera cuantitativa y expone los primeros avances de investigación acerca de los beneficiarios que figuran en el croquis mencionado.

From the map National Territories. Names of Landowners included by the brothers Edward and George Mulhall in Handbook of The River Plate (HRP) of 1885, an exhaustive manual that these British published, in various editions, between 1863 and 1892, analyzing the distribution of indigenous territories located in different sections of the provinces of Buenos Aires, Córdoba and the National Territory of La Pampa. The source includes around fourteen million hectares the National State obtained in the so-called Conquest of the Desert (1879-1885), military campaigns that were primarily financed by a law of 1878 that called for the investment of private agents. The article describes the content of the HRP in general and the plan in particular, analyzes the land distribution quantitatively, and exposes the first research advances about the beneficiaries that appear in the mentioned sketch.
