El mosquito del dengue en el centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires: Diagnóstico de situación en Olavarría

Abstract

Introducción: El mosquito Aedes aegypti es el vector del virus del dengue. En Argentina, tanto el vector como la enfermedad están en expansión hacia el sur, siendo el centro de la Pcia. de Buenos Aires parte de dicha frontera de expansión. El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar un diagnóstico de situación en Olavarría mediante la implementación de un sistema de vigilancia entomológica.Material y métodos: Entre diciembre 2021 y abril 2022, se monitorearon semanalmente 22 trampas de ovipostura de Ae. aegypti (19 en Olavarría, 2 en Sierras Bayas y 1 en Loma Negra).Resultados: Se confirmó la presencia del mosquito en la localidad de Olavarría durante todo el periodo estudiado. Aproximadamente la mitad de los sitios estudiados registró la presencia de Ae. aegypti al menos una vez. El porcentaje acumulado de trampas positivas fue 11,9%, siendo los mayores valores mensuales en febrero y marzo.Conclusión: Existe una población establecida del mosquito Ae. aegypti en Olavarría, y por lo tanto, la posibilidad de un brote de dengue con la llegada de casos importados.

Introduction: The mosquito Aedes aegypti is the vector of the dengue virus. In Argentina, both vector and disease are expanding to the south, being the centre of the Buenos Aires Province part of this expansion border. The objective of this study was to achieve a situation diagnosis in Olavarría through the implementation of an entomological surveillance system. Methods: Between December 2021 and April 2022, 22 traps for Ae. aegypti oviposition were inspected weekly (19 in Olavarría, 2 in Sierras Bayas and 1 in Loma Negra). Results: The presence of the mosquito was confirmed in the locality of Olavarría during the entire study period. Approximately half of the study sites recorded the presence of Ae. aegypti at least once. The accumulated percentage of positive traps was 11,9%, being the highest monthly values in February and March. Conclusion: There is an established population of the mosquito Ae. aegypti in Olavarría, and therefore, there is a chance of dengue outbreak with the arrival of imported cases.
