Estudio estratigráfico secuencial del Grupo Cuyo en el Área Agua del Cajón, Cuenca Neuquina

Abstract

The Agua del Cajón block is located regionally towards the north-east flank of the deformationbelt of the Dorsal de Huincul, structural feature that has exerted an important influence on theaccumulation of hydrocarbons in the Cuyo Group. The interval analyzed was defined between thebase of Vaca Muerta Formation and a seismic horizon considered the basal limit of the CuyanoGroup or ?Precuyo Top?. The Cuyano cycle has been descripted here by Los Molles, Lajas andPunta Rosada Formations, which are under development and exploration for both conventional andunconventional reservoirs. In Agua del Cajón block, the Cuyo Group forms a second-order cycle orSupersequence that, through the methodology of the sequential stratigraphy, was subdivided intoeight sequences of the third order. Sismo stratigrapic-structural interpretation and bioestratigraphicanalysis from microfossils, calcareous nanofossils and palynology were integrated with lithologicalwell information, allowing a full interpretation of the tectonic and stratigraphic evolution of theanalyzed interval. The arrangement of the different sequences, upon its external geometry and itsfacies allowed us to infer a second order transgressive-regressive cycle for the Cuyo Group inAgua del Cajón Block. Finally, this paper post a discussion to consider the possibility of linking to thecuspidal terms of the filling of basement hemi grabens assigned to the Precuyo cycle as part of thelow stand system tract of the Cuyo cycle.
