Geografía y Sistemas de Información Geográfica: Evolución teórico-metodológica hacia campos emergentes

Abstract

Los Sistemas de Información Geográfica han generado, al mismo tiempo, una revolución tecnológica y una revolución intelectual. La primera pone su atención en los métodos y técnicas de análisis espacial y la segunda en las formas de estudiar y comprender la realidad centrándose en una focalización espacial. El presente trabajo analiza de que manera ambas revoluciones ubican a la dimensión espacial en el centro de atención de múltiples ciencias. Se analizan los conceptos centrales del análisis espacial y la amplitud geoinformática para dar surgimiento a otras geografías (Geografía Automatizada y Cibergeografía), campos interdisciplinarios (Geoinformática y Geografía Global) y campos transdisciplinarios (Ciencias de la Información Geográfica y Ciencias Sociales Integradas Espacialmente) como perspectivas generadoras de nuevos conocimientos.

Geographic Information Systems have generated, at the same time, a technological and an intellectual revolution. The first draws attention to the methods and techniques of spatial analysis and the second in the ways of studying and understanding reality by focusing on spatial topics. This paper discusses how both revolutions locate the spatial dimension in the center of attention of many sciences. It discusses the concepts of spatial analysis and Geoinformatic ranges to make way for the emergence of other geographies (Automated Geography and Cybergeography), interdisciplinary fields (Geoinformatics and Global Geography) and transdisciplinary fields (Geographic Information Science and Spatially Integrated Social Science) as prospects for generating new knowledge.
