La Huella Ecológica: Un análisis de su origen conceptual y sus transformaciones metodológicas

Abstract

La Huella Ecológica (HE) es un indicador biofísico a partir del cual es posible analizar algunos aspectos de la relación sociedad – naturaleza. Las características del instrumento han propiciado el interés por realizar estimaciones desde diferentes ámbitos (científico, académico, empresarial, gubernamental, ONG, etc) y a distintas escalas, por lo que existen una gran diversidad de antecedentes referidos a este indicador. El estudio analiza un conjunto de antecedentes relacionados a la Huella Ecológica vinculado a su origen conceptual, su articulación con otros indicadores y modificaciones metodológicas que diferentes autores realizaron al ajustarlo a determinados territorios. Este trabajo recupera un conjunto diverso de estudios entre los numerosos antecedentes existentes vinculados a HE, los que fueron seleccionados por la pertinencia y los aportes que efectúan a las discusiones en torno a este indicador. En este sentido es que se pretende aportar al estudio de la cuestión o estado del arte de la HE en constante construcción y desarrollo.

The ecological footprint (EF) is a biophysical indicator which allows for an analysis of the relevant nexus between nature and society. The EF has generated considerable interest from different fields of action and scales, (scientific, academic, business, government, non-government organization, among others) and therefore there is a great diversity of antecedents referring to this indicator. The aim of the paper is to analyze a set of EF antecedents linked with the origin of the concept, its nexus with others indicators and its methodological changes in order to be adapted to certain territories. This work recovers a diverse set of studies among the numerous existent antecedents linked to the EF, which were selected because of their relevance and contributions made to the discussions surrounding the indicator. In this sense, it is intended to contribute to the state of the stare of EF which is constant evolution and development.
