Disconformidad de la reciente historiografía argentina con el término facción: Breve estado de la cuestión

Abstract

En este trabajo presento a discusión una serie de interrogantes sobre la utilización del término «facción» y sobre su cuestionable capacidad para aglutinar en él a todas las alternativas o movimientos políticos que existieron en Argentina entre el proceso independentista y la formación de los partidos políticos modernos a fines del siglo XIX. Introduzco un análisis general de lo que comúnmente se entiende por «facción» y cómo ese término suele ser empleado por la historiografía. Luego, despliego los recientes cuestionamientos de algunos investigadores hacia la utilización indistinta de ese vocablo y analizo los argumentos que se esgrimen con ese fin.

In this paper, I present for discussion an inquiry into the use of the term «faction» and its questionable capacity to bring together in one category, all of the political movements that existed in Argentina between the independence process and the formation of modern political parties at the end of the nineteenth century. Firstly, I present a general analysis of what is usually understood with the term «faction», and how it is used in the historiographical literature. Then, I examine the arguments of some recent historians who have questioned the indiscriminate use of the term.
