Reconocimientos globales, reparaciones locales y (des)igualdad: el Día Internacional del Pueblo Gitano en la Ciudad de Valladolid, España

Abstract

En este artículo realizo una reconstrucción de la historia del Día Internacional del Pueblo Gitano como fecha-símbolo del surgimiento de una identidad política romaní transnacional a consecuencia del proceso de globalización iniciado luego de la posguerra por la acción de los organismos supranacionales. Asimismo, analizaré las dinámicas sociales resultantes de esta fecha conmemorativa apelando a mis notas etnográficas recogidas en la ciudad de Valladolid durante los rituales celebrados en 2015 y 2016. En particular, indagaré los roles del Estado y de otros mediadores imbuidos de una ideología humanitaria, junto con las apropiaciones situadas de los propios Gitanos participantes de esta efeméride que pretende ser la más importante de la comunidad romaní internacional.

This article makes a reconstruction of the history of the International Day of the Roma as a symbol-date of the emergence of a transnational Roma political identity as a result of the globalization process initiated after the post-war period by the action of supranational organizations. I will also analyze the social dynamics resulting from this commemorative date from my ethnographic notes collected in the city of Valladolid during the rituals held in 2015 and 2016. In particular, I will investigate the roles of the State and other mediators imbued with a humanitarian ideology, together with the situated appropriations of the Romani themselves participating in this event that claims to be the most important of the international Roma community.
