Paul Bourget como fuente del diagnóstico cultural de Friedrich Nietzsche (1883-1888): La importancia de la noción francesa de la décadence

Abstract

Hacia finales del llamado período de madurez, Friedrich Nietzsche caracteriza la cultura de su tiempo como decadente. De acuerdo al pensador alemán la decadencia constituye un proceso que se extiende a todas las dimensiones de la vida europea moderna: filosofía, religión, moral, arte, política. Entre los numerosos autores franceses que sirven de fuente a este diagnóstico, destaca la figura de un novelista y crítico literario llamado Paul Bourget. De la lectura de Bourget, Nietzsche toma un elemento que será central en su concepción de la sociedad decimonónica: la noción de la décadence. En continuidad con otros estudios académicos enmarcados dentro de la corriente italiana de Colli-Montinari, el objetivo del presente trabajo consiste en profundizar el análisis de la noción de la décadence defendida por Bourget a fin de aportar nuevos elementos que permitan enriquecer el debate histórico-filológico de la obra de Nietzsche.

Towards the end of the period of maturity, Friedrich Nietzsche characterizes the culture of his time as decadent. According to the German thinker, the decadence constitutes a process that extends to all dimensions of modern European life: philosophy, religion, morality, art, politics. Among the many French authors who serve as source for this diagnosis, the figure of a novelist and literary critic named Paul Bourget stands out. From Bourget’s reading, Nietzsche takes an element that will be central to his conception of the nineteenth-century society: the notion of la décadence. In continuity with other academic studies framed within the Italian current of Colli-Montinari, the objective of this work is to deepen the analysis of the notion of décadence defended by Bourget in order to contribute new elements that allow enriching the historical-philological debate of Nietzsche’s work.
