Entre el crecimiento y la vulnerabilidad: Las exportaciones argentinas, c. 1875–1929

Abstract

En este artículo nos proponemos mostrar las grandes tendencias de las exportaciones argentinas entre aproximadamente 1875 y 1929 –en valor, en volumen, de la canasta exportadora, de la distribución geográfica y el impacto del sector exportador en la economía– y recuperar algunos de los aportes que la literatura ha hecho sobre el tema. Focalizar sobre este problema tiene el doble propósito de, por un lado, resumir la trayectoria exportadora en un período en el que las ventas externas de bienes fueron consideradas el principal motor de crecimiento de la economía y, por el otro, reflexionar sobre su legado para las etapas posteriores que forman parte del presente dossier.

In this paper, we propose to show the major trends of Argentine exports between approximate-ly 1875 and 1929 –in value, in volume, of the export basket, of the geographical distribution, and about the impact of the export sector on the economy–, and recover some of the contributions that literature has made on the subject. Focusing on this problem has the dual purpose of, on the one hand, summarizing the export trajectory in a period in which external sales of goods were considered the main engine of growth of the economy and, on the other, reflecting on its legacy for the later stages that are part of the present dossier.
