Escuela Industrial “Domingo Faustino Sarmiento”: antecedentes e institucionalización como preuniversitario de la Universidad Nacional de San Juan (1862-1973)

Abstract

Durante el complejo devenir de los siglos XIX y XX la escuela secundaria argentina atravesó diversas etapas, las cuales se encontraron demarcadas por significativas transformaciones de sus formatos, así como por variaciones en su conformación institucional y pedagógica. En este artículo, nos proponemos analizar en clave histórico- institucional el proceso de institucionalización de la Escuela Industrial Domingo Faustino Sarmiento como instituto preuniversitario dependiente de la Universidad Nacional de San Juan (UNSJ). El origen del establecimiento estudiado sienta sus bases en el Colegio Preparatorio de San Juan, primera escuela secundaria creada en la provincia cuyana. El foco analítico estará centrado, específicamente, en torno a su proceso de conformación y su devenir institucional intermediado por el contexto educativo nacional. En este sentido, daremos cuenta de sus tensiones experimentadas a partir de la aplicación de determinadas políticas nacionales, destacando también el complejo y controvertido rol de Domingo Faustino Sarmiento en tanto agente político y educativo contribuyente de la conformación identitaria de las instituciones escolares que precedieron a dicha escuela. Asimismo, daremos cuenta de su incorporación a la estructura de la UNSJ, acontecimiento que sentó las bases para la conformación de su estructura institucional y diseño curricular actual.

During the complex development of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the Argentine secondary school system went through several stages; they were demarcated by significant transformations of the system's format as well as by variations in its institutional and pedagogical conformation. In this article, we intend to carry out a historical and institutional analyses of the process of institutionalization of the ";Escuela Industrial Domingo Faustino Sarmiento" as a pre-university institution dependent on the National University of San Juan (UNSJ). The origin of the school analyzed lies on the ";Colegio Preparatorio de San Juan", the first secondary school created in the province of Cuyo. The analytical focus will be specifically placed on its conformation process and its institutional evolution mediated by the national educational context. In this respect, we will account for the tensions experienced after the implementation of certain national policies, highlighting the complex and controversial role of Domingo Faustino Sarmiento both as a political and educational agent and as a key contributor to the identity formation of the educational institutions that preceded the formerly mentioned school. Furthermore, we will describe its incorporation into the organization of the UNSJ; an event which laid the foundations for the conformation of its institutional structure and current curricular design.
