Servicio doméstico y desigualdades en Santiago del Estero

Abstract

Con el presente informe me propongo socializar mi tesis doctoral defendida en marzo del año 2019 en el marco del Doctorado en Estudios Sociales de América Latina del Centro de Estudios Avanzados de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. Presento una síntesis de los principales componentes de la investigación, con el fin de contribuir a la comunidad de las Ciencias Sociales y al colectivo de trabajadoras del servicio doméstico, visibilizando las particularidades de la actividad en una provincia del norte argentino. La estructura sigue la lógica de la tesis, comenzando por el planteo del problema, seguido por el marco teórico-metodológico que permitió abordar el objeto de estudio, los principales resultados, analizados desde un abordaje cuantitativo y cualitativo, y las reflexiones finales.<br />Se observan múltiples desigualdades hacia el interior del mercado de trabajo santiagueño, con altas tasas de informalidad y precariedad, sumado a las inequidades de género. El servicio doméstico se presenta como la principal actividad entre las mujeres que trabajan, constituido principalmente por trabajadoras provenientes de sectores populares urbanos, cuyas trayectorias laborales son intermitentes e inestables. Las relaciones al interior de la actividad giran en torno a la autoridad de las familias empleadoras, quienes determinan unilateralmente las condiciones de trabajo.

With this report I intend to socialize my doctoral thesis which was presented in March 2019 as part of the Doctorado en Estudios Sociales de América Latina of the Centrode Estudios Avanzados of the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba. I present a synthesis of the main components of the research, with the aim of contributing to the social science community and the group of domestic workers, making visible the particularities of the activity in a province in northern Argentina. The structure follows the logic of the thesis, starting with the presentation of the problem, followed by the theoretical-methodological framework that allowed the object of study to be addressed, the main results, analyzed from a quantitative and qualitative approach, and the final comments.Many inequalities can be observed within the Santiago labour market, with high rates of informality and insecurity, in addition to gender inequalities. Domestic service is the main activity of working women, who are mainly from popular urban sectors and whose employment paths are intermittent and unstable. Relations within the activity revolve around the authority of employing families, who unilaterally determine their work conditions.
