Entre la villa y la fábrica. El pueblo de Santa Ana en la especialización azucarera

Abstract

Se propone reconsiderar la conceptualización ?pueblos azucareros? desde un abordaje local. La historiografía concibió que las poblaciones desarrolladas al influjo de las fábricas azucareras de Tucumán fueron configuradas según la voluntad de las empresas. El estudio del pueblo de Santa Ana, donde se edificó a fines del siglo XIX el ingenio homónimo, revela la presencia de un entramado vecinal previo que conformó la villa como centro cívico y comercial. Los trabajadores radicados en el complejo habitacional construido en el ingenio realizaban sus trámites cívicos y consumos en la villa, prácticas que limitaron el control de los industriales. En esa línea se postula que los vecinos de la villa afianzaron su autonomía en el territorio al ejercer como funcionarios. Desde ese rol asociaron sus intereses con las pretensiones del Estado Provincial de regular el ámbito local, articulación que operó como limite a prácticas expansivas del ingenio.
