Fuentes ideológicas de la Reforma Universitaria de 1918: sus repercusiones en los textos programáticos de Deodoro Roca

Abstract

En el trabajo se proponen examinar las principales tendencias intelectuales que confluyeron en la Reforma universitaria de 1918. Para ello se considera al conjunto de ideas que preceden a este movimiento, particularmente referidas a las expresiones y debates que eclosionaron durante el Centenario de 1910 en la Argentina, cuyas proyecciones se indican en los textos programáticos de Deodoro Roca, uno de los principales referentes del reformismo universitario. Especialmente resulta notoria la influencia de la ideología juvenilista que proviene de autores como José Enrique Rodó y José Ingenieros, junto con la prédica a favor de la unidad latinoamericana, temas que serían retomados por los estudiantes reformistas cuando articularon este movimiento a nivel regional. Además de su presencia posterior en los discursos de Roca, interesa mostrar cómo estas representaciones intelectuales se vinculan al momento social y político que vivía la nación argentina a comienzos del siglo XX. Esto permite entender cómo se insertó el movimiento reformista en una etapa de democratización política y de transformaciones sociales que se reflejaron, con avances y retrocesos, en el ámbito universitario.

We analyze the main intellectual tendencies that concurred in 1918’s University Reform. We consider the set of ideas that occurred previous to this movement, particularly those referred to the expressions and debates that hatched during Argentina’s 1910 Centennial and whose projections appear in the programmatic writings of Deodoro Roca, one of the central figures of the university reformism. It is notorious the influence of the youthism ideology from authors like José Enrique Rodó and José Ingenieros, together with the advocacy in favor of the Latin American unity, ideas that were adopted by the reformist students as they articulated this movement at a regional level. Besides their later appearance in Roca’s discourse, it is interesting to show how these intellectual representations connect to the social and political moment of the Argentine Nation at the beginning of the XXth century. This allows us to understand how the reformist movement inserted itself in a stage of political democratization and social transformation, which reflected in turn in the university life.
