Cocaine and Cocaine Base Paste in Cardiology. A matter to Consider

Abstract

In spite of being an intermediate product of cocaineand that many of its effects are related to cocaine content,the clinical manifestations of cocaine base pasteare different from those observed with cocaine hydrochloride,probably due to the impurity of this drug.Although there are post-mortem specimens of drugabusers, the findings are contaminated by the coexistenceof multiple toxic agents in the same patient.Despite the great social impact produced by the use ofthis drug, little is known about its chemical composition,chronic effects on the different organs or pathophysiology.The creation of multidisciplinary groups,with modern technology and adequate economic supportis urgent to deal with this extremely seriousscourge. In that sense, the cardiological approach inthese patients cannot be absent.
