Resumen
This chapter introduces Delay-Tolerant Network (DTN) of Things, a networking paradigm that extends current capability of the Internet of Things (IoT). It also introduces the concept of network of things, its applications, architecture and services based on existing literature. The chapter provides an overview of existing infrastructure and application communication protocols developed for the IoT part of the network of things. It discusses DTN of Things as architecture to cope with link disruptions. The chapter motivates the application scenarios, survey existing experiences on applying DTN to the network of things and discusses persistent challenges toward deploying large-scale DTN of Things networks. It argues that the difficulty in converging in a unique infrastructure model and set of IoT protocols lies not only in the heterogeneity of the things, but in the attempt of integrating them via Internet. The chapter describes DTN of Things as an alternative to the existing families of IoT protocols based on the Internet paradigm.
