dc.description.abstract
In this chapter, eigenvalue optimization formulations are reviewed and discussed in the context of analysis, design, and control of nonlinear dynamic systems with applications to food engineering related processes. The chapter is structured as follows: In Section 14.2, the basics of nonlinear dynamic systems analysis are introduced to provide the fundamentals for the subsequent discussion. In Section 14.3, two eigenvalue optimization strategies are reviewed and illustrated by means of motivating examples. In Section 14.4 the details of a Matlab (MathWorks, 2004) package that implements the described formulations are provided. Next the bioethanol production process is used as case study to perform open- and closed-loop analysis and design. A conclusion and future work section closes the chapter.
