Investigaciones arqueológicas de Florentino Ameghino en la cuenca del río Luján

Abstract

En este artículo se analizan las investigaciones realizadas por Florentino Ameghino en la cuenca del río Luján enmarcándolas en su contexto científico e histórico, y se evalúa la importancia de aquellos trabajos desde una mirada actual. Se identifican y se georreferencian los lugares señalados por este investigador a lo largo de sus publicaciones, y se informa sobre el devenir de los materiales allí recuperados. Se observa que los trabajos de campo realizados por Ameghino en la cuenca del río Luján corresponden a sus primeras incursiones en la ciencia, durante los años 1869 a 1877 y una breve estadía en el verano de 1884. Respecto a su colección, fue mayormente publicada en su obra La antigüedad de hombre en el Plata (1880-81) y se encuentra actualmente en el Museo de Ciencias Naturales de La Plata, en tanto que algunos materiales recuperados con posterioridad se encuentran en el Museo Etnográfico J B Ambrosetti. Se destaca que los ?Paraderos? descriptos por Ameghino fueron el puntapié inicial de los fuertes debates acerca de la contemporaneidad del hombre con la megafauna pampeana, y el establecimiento de una primera secuencia de ocupaciones humanas sobre una base geoestratigráfica. Se concluye que el acercamiento metodológico al problema constituye un verdadero aporte, pionero en la historia de la arqueología como ciencia

The investigations carried out by Florentino Ameghino in the Lujan river basin, framing them in their scientific and historical context are analyzed, and the importance of those works from a current perspective is evaluated. The places pointed out by this researcher throughout his publications are identified and georeferenced, and information is provided on the historical trayects of the materials recovered there. It is observed that the field works carried out by Ameghino in the Lujan river basin are limited to the years 1869 to 1877 and then a brief stay in 1884 and that it correspond to his first forays into science, during his youth. Regarding his collection, it was mostly published in his work The Antiquity of Man in Silver (1880-81) and is currently in the Museum of Natural Sciences of La Plata, while some materials recovered later are in the J B Ambrosetti Ethnographic Museum. It is emphasized that the sites described by Ameghino were the starting point of the strong debates about the contemporaneity of man with the Pampa megafauna, and the proposal of a first sequence of human occupations on a geostratigraphic basis. It is concluded that the methodological approach to the problem constitutes a true contribution, pioneer in the history of archeology as a science
